They sound like the perfect summer knitting too! Small, easy to pack in the purse, and I won't have a lap full of yarn to sweat on. Yay! And I WILL dust off my poor sewing machine. Sew Mama Sew has some great summer top tutorials that are hopefully newbie proof!K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-49488987779055845362012-06-01T21:24:00.000-05:002012-06-01T21:24:39.414-05:00The Story of the BallstickThere once was a girl (not me) on Ravelry who innocently named a doc file ballstick. This paper I believe was something scientific in nature, but I digress. But this girl, she was so tickled that she finished her paper that she chatted with her friends (I being one) on Ravelry and thus shared the name that she named her paper. It was Ballstick. Now this was treated with much hilarity! It still makes me giggle while writing this, you know. And now that we have the backstory, I feel free to tell you that this silly word and the fun that we have had with it has indelibly etched this word into my brain. Someday I will be old and forgetful, but I will remember the Ballstick. I probably won't remember why, but I will remember it! No doubt, it will probably be my last word to my poor befuddled child or grandchild or nurse or whomever is there to see me breathe my last. They will lean close, I'll cackle madly and whisper "ball....STICK!" Now of course this will make them giggle and giggle some more and indelibly etch this odd and silly word into THEIR subconcious. And someday they will be dying and they will cackle or chuckle or snort and whisper or stutter or shout out BALLSTICK! to their descendant or nurse or parson or whomever. And on and on it will go until there are no one who remembers us, but the Ballstick will be handed down until someday, someone will wonder, WHY?!?! And then giggle. :)K. I need more Dr. Who! sigh.

Almost done with the green fishy hat!

Will try to be more chatty tomorrow. ;)K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-66879835061386175732012-02-12T21:02:00.000-06:002012-02-12T21:02:26.402-06:00Oi.Yes, oi. I've been watching too much BBC today. So there. lol

I've finished the main hat part of the last capucine hat and need to block both and make the tassels. Such quick knits! I'm now working on the main body of the first fish hat. Absolutely love the color combo. Frog Tree wool in a pretty apricot/marigold heathery shade for the accents and a foresty/olivey green tweed (queensland something yummy). So striking!

And after almost finishing 5 seasons of Dr. Who (I still love the actor from season one the best!!!), I wonder when I can use the word gobsmacked without sounding silly... hmmm...

BTW, Burn Notice is still working out! Great guest stars too!

Have a good night!K. Sooooooooo cold!!! With how temperate this winter has been, I am not prepared for the cold! I'm now wishing that my Cassis cardi was done. BRRRRR!!!!

On an up note, I'm almost done with the second Capucine hat! They are just too darn cute. I may have to break down and make one for me after I make one for Charla. She's slowly making me appreciate earflap hats. It was just hilarious last weekend. Hubby and I were down at an auction house near here and one of the teenage helpers was wearing a earflap hat that looked like a penguin! I've been seeing the patterns for animal hat lately, but I really only noticed the ones for kids. I had no idea this was a trend! Did I mention the teenager was a boy??? lol! Sorry teenage dude, penguin earflap hat that my six year old goes gaga for makes me giggle!

Well, I'm about done for the night. To anyone out there bored enough to read this and my wonderful mom, good night. :)K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-77317558961187465482012-02-09T20:28:00.000-06:002012-02-09T20:28:37.998-06:00Snow!It snowed! Yay!!!!

It's so pretty and I never had to set foot in it. :)K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-40255420775713776972012-02-08T19:57:00.000-06:002012-02-08T19:57:51.310-06:00Potatoes Rock!Holy sheep everyone! Potatoes make the most amazing doughnuts. I used the Baked Sugar Doughnuts (Bread Machine) recipe from food.com. I tossed everything in my bread machine (including mashed potatoes! lol), mixed it up, used my cookie scoop to make doughnut holes, sprinkled them with cinnamon-sugar before baking, 8 mins at 375, and YUM! They are the lightest and most tender doughnuts I've ever made. I should've made a half batch though! We'll be eating doughnuts for the next week!

(yum!)K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-45098938903438509682012-02-07T22:52:00.000-06:002012-02-07T22:52:32.876-06:00Stick a Fork in MeDONE! 14 shipping labels printed and even scheduled a pickup so my mail lady doesn't whine. :)

Now all I have to do is pack up all the star wars figures and collectibles and they will be on their way out! I hope I bought enough boxes today.... lol

On another note, I LOVE NETFLIX!!! Well, at least while they keep their good rates, of course. lol Hubbster and I just started watching Burn Notice. It's a really good series! Well, at least the first two episodes are. That's all we've watched so far. I love Bruce Campbell's character! K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-44745793708919073182012-02-06T21:28:00.000-06:002012-02-06T21:28:20.632-06:00Geez!It's been awhile! I feel as though I should be blowing the dust bunnies out of the corners of my blog! lmao It's amazing how time flies. :)

Okie-dokie, now for some ramblings about knitting.... Hey! I am knitting. Not for myself mind you. Commission knitting!!! lol I have the buttons left to knit on my peak's island hood and then that will be on its way to canada to the lovely Maggi who sent me lovely sock yarns. I'm hoping to make the mcn she sent me into a pretty shawlette to keep my neck cozy and the gorgeous gothsocks into kneesocks. i'm tempted to try some colorwork even. gasp! Anyways, the hood for Maggi was knit from Malabrigo worsted. I've found this is not my fave yarn. I know, shocked right? I absolutely adore the sock yarn. But the worsted is too splitty and thick and thin for me. There was a definate weight difference in the first and second skeins. The first skein bordered on bulky weight and the second was very much more on the worsted side. It was wonderfully soft, though!

My other commission is for the too cool Tairi. (I think I spelled the name right!) I'm knitting fun winter hats for her kiddoes. Capucine hats (they look like little Hansel and Gretel fairytale hoods!) for the girls and Fish hats for the boys. SO CUTE!

When these are all done I'm hoping I'll be able to convince myself to get back to my cassis cardi. I'm knitting it from a cozy sheepy grey/oatmeal rustic wool. Christopher Sheep Farm Two-Ply. Lovely stuff. Been working on it since fall and I'm still on the raglan shaping. Did I mention this is a top down sweater??? lol!

Enough of ranting! I'm glad to be back. I'm going to go curl up with my book and my cat. :)K. Annehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00283792769282453952noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28833979.post-42820537342196868952009-06-02T07:59:00.000-05:002009-06-02T08:06:21.705-05:00Bad Blogger!I haven't been around much lately, have I?!? I am knitting a pair of baby pants for the littlest boy and the pattern calls for 16" circs and dpns. I can't find my dpns (they are hiding from me because they know I secretly hate them), so I have stretched the leg stitches onto the circ. It looks like I am knitting a grey wooly funnel.K. It turned out really nice. I had to use a flash in the picture, so it doesn't pick up all the details very well. The 10's row is made with an apple green round glass bead, the 1's row is an iridescent purple triangular bead, and the accent bead is a purple lampwork bead. The slider is out of green seed beads about a shade or two darker than the 10's beads. It is all strung on elastic thread to accomadate a larger range of sizes and to eliminate the need for pesky clasps. All findings are sterling silver. This is for sale for $10 including shipping to the U.S.

This next FO is a swatch keychain. It is about 4 times the size of the swatch charms. (A much better size for hanging out with your keys!) This one was made from cotton yarn in a white/yellow/gold colorway. It is accented with amber/gold and yellow glass beads. It is stitched in an allover cable with garter edging. Keychains are available for $5 including shipping to the U.S. (This one is not available! It was made to order. Sorry!)

As for the rest of my friday update, I will still be selling the swatch charms. I will not be making them into cell phone charms unless specifically ordered that way. If you would like one, they will be $4 each including shipping to the U.S. Otherwise, I will be making charms into stitch markers. (They are really cute this way!) A set of five will be $8 including shipping to the U.S.

Thanks!

More coming soon!
K. Poor Cindy! She was the winner of my last contest. The envelope for the ring finally made it to her in the mail, but not the ring! Someone had tampered with the package and stolen the ring. I hope the S.O.B. got a really nasty paper-cut. I have half a mind to go down to the post office and raise a stink. This has never happened to me before and it really pisses me off. But, thankfully, I do have the same beads leftover from Cindy's ring, so I can make another just like it. Hopefully the S.O.B. will have a day off and it can be delivered to her without the tampering. Hmph.
On a lighter note...
Thanks to all of you for your congrats on the new baby. If you didn't get an email form and want to see pics of him, please send me your email addy and I will send you the link!
Another thanks to all of you that have offered support and/or yarn for my blankie! Hopefully it won't take the 20 months it took Shelly Kang! (Yikes, huh?)
More soon!K. It's astounding how diorganized I am right now. I am finally settling into a semblance of a routine and getting back to feeling normal. (I'm going back and reading this....it's not so dramatic as it sounds!)
Updates:
The baby came on the 29th. (yep, leap year!)
I can see my feet! LOL
Alas, there is no knitting content. I have finished a baby hat lately and that's about it. There are still no batteries in the camera. When I get to it, I will have a happy post full of belated knitting pron. :)
I may be getting a little sadistic in my knitting. I really want to make this blanket. Yep, a sock yarn blanket on sz 2 needles. And here comes the fun part. I don't exactly have a stash of sock yarn. But I know you all do! LOL No, no, don't click away. I'm not wanting to seperate you all from your sock yarn. I would be more likely to be poked with all those itty-bitty needles first, wouldn't I? I just want your odds and ends that sit in the back of the closet after you have finished your socks. I would even be willing to trade for them. Send me your bits and I will send you a beaded ring, a knitted cell phone charm, or a knitted swatch key chain.
Now for some contests...
Devon is having a blogoversary contest...go tell her about your fav dessert and that I sent you!
NH Knitting Mama is having a Promote my Shop contest...go tell her I sent you!
Ann is having a contest, too. That, or the promise of Guinness to go in it! LOL

This was incredibly easy to make. I did change it a bit. I omitted the sleeves and shortened the neck. I am thinking of making another one in a girly pattern for myself.
